North American Fishing Club, the premier community for anglers and outdoors enthusiasts, is pleased to announce Thomas Allen as Managing Editor of North American Fisherman. Previously, Allen has been an independent freelance outdoor writer and communications specialist. During his tenure as a writer, he had over 500 articles published among some of the nation’s top fishing and hunting publications, produced and hosted several outdoor talk radio shows, and developed and managed numerous outdoor blogs
“Thomas is a seasoned outdoor writer and editor with extensive angling and communications experience,” said Kurt Beckstrom, Editor-in-Chief for North American Fisherman. “With his sportfishing background and the ability to tell a good story, he’ll make a powerful contribution to our editorial team.”
At North American Fisherman, Thomas’s main role is to assist the editorial team transitioning the magazine into a new, improved look for the February, 2013 issue debut. This consists of adding more columns, including one penned from him on his fishing pursuits, and more on conservation issues. His day-to-day duties will include general copy and layout editing, annual editorial schedule development, regular contributor communication, trade show participation and online content generation and implementation, to name a few.
“I am very excited to be working with the entire North American editorial crew, especially with a legendary editor like Kurt Beckstrom,” said Allen. “Being able to make a living centered on one of my foremost passions is nothing short of a blessing and I am thankful for the opportunity!”
Fishing for all types of gamefish has been Thomas’s primary passion since he was a very young child, but in recent years he’s focused on competitive bass angling and muskie fishing. He’s also a passionate hunter, chasing whitetails in the fall and turkeys in the early spring. A Wisconsin native by birth, Thomas is married to Kathyrn and they have two children, Tommy and Taylor.
