Six OWAA Contest Winners Judged “Best of the Best”

A committee of OWAA past presidents judged first-place winners from the 2012 Excellence in Craft contests, picking the best of the best work from each type of media recognized in the contests. This year’s Presidents’ Choice Award winners are:
Magazine/E-zine category: T. Edward Nickens of Raleigh, N.C. “Ready, Aim, Fire,” published in the January/February 2011 issue of Audubon. Nickens won first place in the Conservation category of the Magazine/E-zine contest.
Newspaper/Website category: Paul Smith of Wauwatosa, Wis. “Making a Connection,” published in the Jan. 23, 2011, issue of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Smith won first place in the Hunting/Shooting Sports category of the Newspaper/Website contest.
Blog category: Aaron Teasdale of Missoula, Mont. “Fall Peaks: The Best Autumn Escapes – Whitefish, Mont.,” posted Sept. 22, 2011, on Adventure-Journal.com. Teasdale won first place in the Outdoor Fun and Adventure category of the Blog contest. The Outdoor Fun and Adventure category was sponsored by The Coleman Company.
Radio/Podcast category: Jeff Kelm of Sheboygan, Wis. “Conquer the Rhine,” broadcast on Outdoors Radio, April 9, 2011. Kelm won first place in the Outdoor Fun and Adventure category of the Radio/Podcast contest. The Outdoor Fun and Adventure category was sponsored by The Coleman Company.
Television/Video/Webcast category: Kris Millgate of Idaho Falls, Idaho. “The Elk Whisperer,” broadcast Dec. 13, 2011, on NBC/KPVI News 6. Millgate won first place in the Hunting/Shooting Sports category of the Television/Video/Webcast contest.
Photo category: Tom Ulrich of West Glacier, Mont.. “St. Mary’s Lake.” Ulrich won first place in the Scenic category of the Photography contest.
