Colorado Parks and Wildlife: Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day on Saturday, Oct. 6

On Saturday Oct. 6, Lory State Park and Overland Mountain Bike Club will host young riders age 17 and under for a youth mountain biking event. The ride is part of a nationwide celebration known as “Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day.” The event is supported by the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA).

Overland welcomes all local riders who want to have a fun day on their bikes. Here’s everything you need to know:

  • The event is free to all kids and their parents. Parents must accompany their children on the ride and be there throughout the day.
  • Register online by Saturday, Sept 28 at www.overlandmtb.org.
  • Be sure to bring helmet, water, a snack, sunscreen, and functioning mountain bike.
  • Start time is 10 a.m., please show up by 9:45am for registration
  • Lunch is provided, along with some goodies for the kids.

The event is also supported locally by Full Cycle, Backcountry Provisions, LaPorte Pizza, and REI.

Event Organizer, John Tipton, says he and his fellow club members look forward to the event each fall. “This event is just as special for us as it is for the kids. It’s a chance for Overland club members to share our love of mountain biking, the outdoors, and staying active with a new generation.”

IMBA’s International Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day celebrates the life of Jack Doub, an avid teenage mountain biker from North Carolina who had a true passion for the sport from an early age to the time when he passed away in 2002.
