Blair High School anglers Matt Neiburg and Zach Madsen won the High School Southern Conference Fishing Championship on Oct. 6 at Arkansas’ Lake Dardanelle.
Neiburg and Madsen, who won the Nebraska high school tournament at Summit Lake on July 28, advance to the national tournament in the spring. The date and location has not been determined. The event was held by The Bass Federation and FLW (Forrest L. Wood), which organizes fishing tournaments nationwide.
Neiburg and Madsen, both seniors, won the conference tournament with a five-bass limit weighing 15 pounds. The team’s boat captain was Bill Warrick of Blair.
“We caught them on Senkos, and it was tough,” Madsen said in an FLW news release. “We caught two right away and then we caught two more.”
Said Neiburg: “We went to a spot and I threw a Senko and had a good one on and we just kept on throwing that Senko. We were told to keep throwing it and it might only be a fish an hour, but it might also get it done.”
The Nebraskans defeated teams from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana.
