Colorado Halloween Hike and Hunt with AHRA
OutdoorHub 10.23.12
Join Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA) volunteer naturalist Bob Hickey for a Halloween geocache hike and hunt on Saturday, Oct. 27 in the Midland Trail area off Highways 24/285 just east of Johnson Village.
The geocache quest will include several loops defined by five latitude/longitude points marked by a flag. Participants will be divided into teams of two to five people. They will be given a topographic map of their specific search area and their geocache points must be discovered in a specific order.
One person on each team needs a beginning or higher skill in the use of a GPS device for field navigation. Also, at least one GPS unit per team is needed, so please bring a land navigational-type GPS if you have one. Participants, such as couples and families, can sign up together and be assigned to the same time.
The hunt will take approximately five hours, including a morning orientation and lunch. Once the adventure begins, trekkers will hike and explore in the midst of beautiful mountain and rugged canyon scenery with sweeping views of the upper Arkansas River Valley.
There will be prizes and surprises and what a “spook-tacular” way to enjoy the crisp autumn weather. For more information and to register for this program, call AHRA at 719-539-7289. Everyone is asked to wear comfortable shoes, dress for the weather and bring a lunch and plenty of water. Who knows what hoo doos may await you?
