Indiana Hunters are Asked to Take One More Deer and Help Feed the Hungry

Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry is a Corunna based, non-profit organization that serves Indiana. The organization wants to eliminate hunger in the area by making it easy for farmers and hunters to donate surplus farm and large game animals to help the needy.
Debra Treesh, executive director of Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry, says “On average, each donated deer provides about 50 pounds of much needed, high protein meat to the local food banks. So far this hunting season (early archery), bow hunters have contributed more than 300 animals to the cause.”
Debra Treesh’s goal for this year’s deer hunting season is 1000 donated animals. That translates to a 200,000 meals for the needy! She says, “While the archery season bow hunters have made a great start toward achieving our goal, I am counting on an outstanding firearms season to complete the challenge.”
If you are a hunter, you can help. If you wish to contribute, simply take your field-dressed deer to any one of several participating butchers in the area. Tell the butcher of your intent to contribute. Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry will pay the processing costs. The meat will remain in the community in which it was donated
