Tradition Meets Future with Sports South $100K Donation to USA Shooting Proud tradition will help provide for the future of America’s Olympic-shooting sports with the recent $100,000 donation provided by firearms and ammunition distributor Sports South, LLC, to the USA Shooting Team.
Tradition sums up the 168 year business legacy of Sports South which has been a Dickson family love affair since it began business in 1841. The sons of Markham Allen Dickson — Skipper, Mark and Paul — work with their father in the daily performance of a tradition that spans more than a century. Today, there are two distribution centers; Sports South, LLC, representing the sporting goods industry, and Morris & Dickson Co., LLC, representing the pharmaceutical industry.
Based in Shreveport, La., the country’s oldest and largest single-source distributor of firearms and ammunition is providing the generous contribution in an effort to help support USA Shooting’s push to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
“The 2012 Games just concluded in August and with generous support from the shooting sports industry, our team achieved great things,” said Buddy DuVall, USA Shooting Team Foundation Executive Director. “The USA Shooting’s team preparation for Rio and beyond is ongoing and this tremendous support from Sports South will help build upon the momentum of our four-medal performance in London.”
“Sports South, LLC is happy to help, if even in a small way, to ensure the future of shooting and the future of the USA Shooting Team,” said Skipper Dickson. “America’s proud heritage of gun ownership is something all of us at Sports South treasure.”
The recently concluded Olympic Games and 2012 in general was a banner year for USA Shooting. Four U.S. shooting athletes reached the podium at the Olympic Games including Kim Rhode(women’s skeet/El Monte, Calif.), Vincent Hancock (men’s skeet/Eatonton, Ga.), Jamie Gray(women’s 3P rifle/Lebanon, Pa.) and Matt Emmons (men’s 3P rifle/Browns Mills, N.J.). With three gold medals, this team exceeded all other U.S. shooting teams since 1924, with the exception of one, the 1984 squad that won three as well but also didn’t have to compete against the tough USSR and East German shooters given their boycott of the Games.
Instrumental in helping USA Shooting build this tradition of success is the shooting industry and the incredible partners that provide contributions to the athletes and sport. USA Shooting exists as a result of the benefits received from its association with the industry’s top organizations. The direct and indirect support that is provided through these relationships — the team behind the team –furthers its ability to continue the winning tradition; a tradition that wouldn’t be possible without this generous support.
