An 18-year old and a 17-year old were arrested Sunday night, November 11, in Springfield by Vermont State Game Warden Stephen Majeski as they attempted to drag a four-point buck out of a field.
Warden Majeski received a report at 10:00 p.m. from a landowner on Missing Link Road who observed a vehicle backing into his driveway and illuminating the field on the other side of the road. A shot was fired and the vehicle departed. Majeski found the dead buck when he responded and waited nearby in the woods.
About 20 minutes later a vehicle slowed to a stop. Two men got out and started to drag the deer across the field. Warden Majeski arrested Bruce Wells and the juvenile, both of Rockingham. Springfield Police also responded to assist in the investigation. A .308 caliber rifle was seized during the investigation.
If convicted, Wells will be subject to fines and restitution of up to $3,000. Wells will also have his privileges to hunt, fish and trap suspended for three years.
