OutdoorHub 12.04.12
The Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA) invites the public of all ages to its annual holiday open house on Friday, Dec. 14 at the AHRA visitor center, 307 W. Sackett Ave. in Salida from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. A delicious array of holiday refreshments will be served and guests can make and take home backyard bird treats! AHRA Volunteer Bob Hickey will also fascinate everyone with an Arkansas River geology and rock “touch table” exhibit.
There will be information on how to attract bluebirds and build bluebird nest boxes, and volunteers can sign up with Colorado Parks and Wildlife for the 2013 monitoring season. Bluebird nest boxes will be sold by the Greater Arkansas River Nature Association (GARNA). GARNA will offer all items in their AHRA sales outlet at 10% off.
Parks gift certificates, in any amount you choose, as well as annual Colorado State Parks passes will be available and make wonderful gifts of outdoor cheer that last all year, so come do your holiday shopping with us! Guests can also enter a drawing for a basket full of assorted surprises.
Call AHRA at 719-539-7289 for more information.
The AHRA is managed through a cooperative effort between the Bureau of Land Management and Colorado State Parks. Formed in 1989, this partnership allows agencies to provide visitors with recreation opportunities and care for significant natural resources of the upper Arkansas River valley.
