In the time immediately following the tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut there was no official word from the National Rifle Association (NRA) regarding the incident. For four days, the NRA’s Facebook page was deactivated and its Twitter went without an update. On December 18, the NRA Facebook page was restored and the organization posted this announcement, stating that they would hold a news conference on Friday, December 21:

The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.

Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.

The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.

The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.

Details will be released to the media at the appropriate time.

  • Well I hear that aprox. 8000 people are joining the NRA daily since that tragic shooting. All I can say is GREAT!

You don’t outlaw cars in an effort to stop texting and driving nor do they want to outlaw cars to stop drunk drivers, both which are far more costly in loss of life in all ages than firearms.

I have children and grandchildren of my own so I can sympathize with the parents who lost children in this evil massacre. I can also say that the reason I cling to my God and guns is my determination to protect them from such a tradigity.
When I here the media trying to paint the gun lobby as evil I kinda take that personal because I’m a supporter of the NRA and they are my voice.

Military type weapons and large capacity magaziens have no place in the hands of the general public. There are no competitions that require that many shots in a short time span.

If gun owners give an inch the government will take a mile. We have to “stick to our guns” as they say.
