Watch the Quadrantids Meteor Shower at Indiana’s Paynetown SRA

Monroe Lake will host a viewing event at the peak of the Quadrantids meteor shower on Thursday, Jan. 3.

The event runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Paynetown State Recreation Area, 4850 S. State Road 446, Bloomington. Signs will guide visitors to the viewing location at B Campground.

Visitors can gather around a fire, toast s’mores and sip hot cocoa while watching for “shooting stars.”

“The Quadrantids are a lesser known meteor shower,” said Jill Vance, Monroe Lake’s naturalist. “But they are capable of producing up to 40 meteors per hour.”

The event will be canceled in the event of inclement weather or cloudy skies. For a status update, call (812) 837-9967 before 5 p.m. on Jan. 3. Questions can be directed to that same number or to jvance@dnr.IN.gov.
