New Mexico Fishing Report for Dec. 26

Northeast

Cabresto Lake: The lake and campground closed May 14 and will stay closed while the dam is being rebuilt.
Charette Lakes: Closed for the season.
Clayton Lake: Closed for the season.
Conchas Lake: Fishing pressure was very light and we had no reports from anglers.
Coyote Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Eagle Nest Lake: As of this past Friday the lake was covered with snow and ice but unsafe for fishing. For updated ice conditions contact the Eagle Nest Lake State Park office at 575-377-1594.
Lake Maloya: As of this writing the lake was covered with a thin layer of ice. For updated conditions call the Sugarite Canyon State Park office at 575-445-5607.
Los Pinos: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Manzano Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Maxwell Lake 13: Closed for the season.
Monastery Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Morphy Lake: Closed for the season.
Pecos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Red River: Water flow below the hatchery was 23 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Red River City Ponds: Closed for the season.
Rio Grande: The water flow Monday at the Taos Junction Bridge was 349 cfs. Trout fishing in the Pilar area was good using bead head pheasant tails and brassies. A few fish were also taken by anglers using Pistol Petes. We had sighting of northern pike but no catches reported.
Rio Hondo: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Mora: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Barbara: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Springer Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
Storrie Lake: As of this past Friday there was a thin layer of ice on the lake. For updated conditions contact the Storrie Lake State Park office at 505-425-7278.
Stubblefield Lake: The lake has reopened with a new agreement reached with the Vermejo Conservancy District. However, with the current low water conditions, fishing is discouraged at this time.
Ute Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using spoons at 35 to 40 feet for walleye. Anglers fishing for walleye also picked up a few white bass. Fishing for all other species was slow. The surface water temp was in the mid 40s.

Northwest

Abiquiu Lake: Fishing pressure was very light and fishing for all species was slow. The surface was free of ice and open to launching boats. Try jigging spoons and blade baits deep for a shot at some good winter walleye fishing.
Animas River: Monday morning water flow at Aztec was 406 cfs. Trout fishing was slow to fair using wooly buggers, San Juan worms and copper John Barrs.
Albuquerque Area Drains: Trout fishing on the drains was very good again this past week. Anglers did well fishing the Albuquerque Drain, Belen and Peralta Drains. Best baits were a single salmon egg on a small hook, parachute adams, small brassies, small copper John Barrs and homemade dough bait. We had no reports on other species.
Bluewater Lake: As of last Friday there was a thin layer of ice on the lake which was unsafe for fishing. Contact the Bluewater State Park office at 505-876-2391 for updated ice conditions.
Canjilon Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Chama River: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 206 cfs and 311 cfs respectively. During the past week, fishing below El Vado was fair using Power Bait, copper John Barrs and San Juan worms for a mix of browns and rainbows. Fishing pressure was light and there was some ice forming along the banks. Below Abiquiu, trout fishing was fair using worms, egg patterns and wooly buggers.
Cochiti Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
El Vado Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Fenton Lake: The lake is off limits to fishing at this time due to a covering of thin ice and snow. For updates contact the state park office at 575-829-3630.
Heron Lake: Fishing pressure this past week was very light and fishing was slow for all species. Jackson Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Jemez Waters: Water flow on the Jemez River as of Monday morning was 15 cfs. Trout fishing on the lower Jemez was fair using small copper John Barrs. We had no reports on other streams in this area.
Laguna del Campo: Closed for the season.
Lake Farmington: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Navajo Lake: Fishing for northern pike was about the same as last week with anglers reporting a few strikes while using swim baits. We had no reports on other species. Fishing pressure was extremely light. The surface water temp was in the mid 40s.
Ramah Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
San Juan: Water flow below Navajo Lake as of Monday morning was 355 cfs. Trout fishing through the Quality Waters was fair to good for anglers using egg patterns, dead chickens, bead head pheasant tails, small midge patterns, small streamers and small wooly buggers. Fishing through the bait waters was fair to good using salmon eggs, worms, copper John Barrs, and wooly buggers.
Santa Cruz Lake: The boat ramp has been closed due to low water conditions. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week. This water is open to fishing for youth under the age of 12 and an excellent place to take youngsters and get them interested in fishing. The pond is well stocked to offer youngsters a great fishing experience.
Tingley Beach: Trout fishing at the Central Pond was good using spinners, homemade dough bait, Pistol Petes, garlic cheese and salmon egg marshmallow combinations. At the Children’s Pond fishing was good using salmon eggs and Power Bait. Trout fishing at the Catch and Release Pond was slow to fair using San Juan worms, pink egg patterns, small midge patterns and red annelids. We had no reports on other species.

Southwest

Bear Canyon: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bill Evans Lake: Trout fishing was fair using garlic cheese, garlic scented Power Bait and homemade dough bait. We had no reports on other species.
Caballo Lake: All boat ramps have been closed and will remain closed until such time as water levels rise and is deemed safe for launching. Fishing pressure was extremely light again this past week and we had no reports from anglers.
Elephant Butte: Fishing was generally slow for all species with just a few catches of white bass and black bass. Best baits were spoons and jigs worked deep. Fishing pressure was light. The water was murky and the surface temp ranged from the high 40s to the low 50s.The Monticello, Dam Site and Rock Canyon boat ramps remain closed due to low water conditions.
Escondida Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
Gila River: Water flow on the Gila as of this past Monday was 65 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Glenwood Pond: Trout fishing was good using Power Bait.
Lake Roberts: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Percha Dam: The water was low and fishing was slow for all species.
Quemado Lake: As of mid week there was some ice on the interior of the lake but the banks were open to fishing. Fishing was slow for all species.
Rio Grande: Water flow below Elephant Butte as of Monday was .86 cfs. Trout fishing was good using worms, salmon eggs, corn salmon egg combinations and Power Bait. We had no reports on other species.
Snow Lake: With access roads open and a recent double stocking of rainbow trout, put this lake high on your list for some fall fishing from the bank. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Southeast

Bataan Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Black River: As of Monday stream flow above Malaga was 9.1. We had no reports from anglers this week but the river was recently stocked and should provide some good winter fishing action.
Blue Hole Park Pond: Trout fishing was slow but there were a few caught by anglers using Power Bait and homemade dough bait.
Bonito Lake: Closed.
Bosque Redondo: Trout fishing was fair-to-good using Power Bait, corn salmon egg combinations and Pistol Petes under a bubble.
Bottomless Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Brantley Lake: Anglers are to practice catch-and-release for all fish here as high levels of DDT were found in several fish.
Carlsbad Municipal Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
El Rito Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Green Meadow Lake: Trout fishing was good using Pistol Petes, garlic scented Power Bait and homemade dough baits.
Grindstone Reservoir: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Jal Lake: Trout fishing was fair using Power Bait, worms and salmon eggs.
Lake Van: Trout fishing was good using rainbow and salmon peach Power Bait, homemade dough bait, Pistol Petes and garlic cheese. We had no reports on other species.
Oasis Park Lake: Trout fishing was fair using Power Bait, garlic cheese and salmon eggs.
Pecos River: Water flow on Monday below Sumner Lake was 20 cfs. Trout fishing was slow to fair using Power Bait, homemade dough bait, salmon eggs and worms. We had no reports on other species.
Perch Lake: Trout fishing was fair using Power Bait, garlic cheese and Pistol Petes.
Ruidoso River: Water flow at Hollywood on Monday was 3.2 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Rosa Lake: As of this past Friday the shore line was free of ice and open to bank fishing. Anglers were catching a few walleye. They were using minnows and small swim baits fished slow and near the bottom. We had no reports on other species. Overall fishing pressure was light. The boat ramp has been closed but the lake is accessible for canoes and kayaks.
Sumner Lake: Fishing pressure continued to be extremely light and fishing was slow for all species. The Violation Canyon boat ramp remains open at this time and will remain open as long as lake levels permit.
