Patrick Sebile Angles Another IGFA Record

Patrick Sebile has fished all across the world and holds many IGFA records. On a recent trip to Lake Okeechobee, Fla., Sebile set out to fish his way into the record books once again while filming with Keith Alan for his upcoming TV show “Lured.” He succeeded on the trip using a lure he designed called the Sebile Proppler Buzz. Sebile connected using the lure on a 61 cm (24.016 inches) largemouth bass, besting the previous record of 59 cm (23.228 inches).

“I cannot explain how fast my heart was racing,” said Sebile. “I’ve had many records and this one means so much. Just the idea of the possibility that this fish could be a record setter just made the trip awesome! I’ve had my eye on a bass record for so long, since I was a little kid actually, that it made the moment that much more enjoyable. Very few anglers have been on the Largemouth Bass world record list and I did not seriously expect it.”

Sebile’s gear list included a 7-feet, 7-inch Berkley rod paired with an Abu Garcia Revo Premier baitcast reel spooled with Stren original 17-pound line. Sebile credits the effectiveness of the lure to be fished many different ways to his success that day.

Sebile said, “The Proppler Buzz is such a diverse bait. An angler can fish it weedless around or on top of heavy cover, in open water, on the surface or 8-inches under the water. It is effective to use it as a frog, to stop and go it, to wake it or to have a slow steady retrieve – as I did for this fish. I chose to add a Sebile Dressed Trailer hook #5/0 on the back end for short striking fish. It’s a good thing I did because the trailer hook did the job.”

Patrick Sebile has fished in more countries than most people can think of, and has held over 350 International Game Fish Association (IGFA), European and French records.

His last milestone, his 700th fish species, was landed recently. He has worked on the conservation side, supporting the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation and the IGFA’s fish management efforts.
