Ice Fishing and Activities at Kite Festival, January 19, Metro Area and Central Minnesota

Share your enthusiasm for fishing and help teach kids how to have fun outdoors at the 12th annual winter Kite Festival, Lake Harriet, Minneapolis, 12 noon – 4 PM, Saturday, January 19, 2013. The event includes sleigh rides, hot chocolate, ice fishing, fish printing and fantastic kites flying over beautiful Lake Harriet. The ice fishing/fish printing tent has always been a hit and great place to stay warm. The tent is a busy gathering place for the entire 4-hour event; extra hands always help the children have a great experience.

Assist the DNR’s Fishing in the Neighborhood staff for 2 – 4 hours instructing children how to ice fish (rigging lines, baiting hooks and taking fish off the hook) as well as assisting kids to drill their own ice hole if desired. There will also be a fish printing station where a volunteer can help kids paint and print rubber fish.  Four to six volunteers are needed for the day and will receive training the day of the event.
