NRA Publications is pleased to announce Adam Heggenstaller will lead Shooting Illustrated—NRA’s monthly newsstand magazine dedicated to personal-protection and tactical firearms, concealed carry and self-defense techniques—and its complementary website, ShootingIllustrated.com, as Editor in Chief, effective January 14, 2013. Heggenstaller, a member of the Shooting Illustrated editorial staff since 2005, most recently served as Executive Editor for the past three years.
“Adam Heggenstaller has been instrumental in the success of the Shooting Illustrated brand, particularly since the magazine and website were relaunched to serve the red-hot tactical shooting market,” said Joe H. Graham, Executive Director, NRA Publications. “His hands-on expertise with the guns and training programs so popular among today’s shooters ensure unsurpassed coverage that meets the standard of excellence for which NRA media properties are well known.”
A journalism graduate from Penn State University and a student of personal-protection techniques, Heggenstaller is an award-winning editor and writer with more than 15 years of publications experience. His background includes diverse firearms training from some of the nation’s top instructional academies, subject matter that frames the content Shooting Illustrated delivers to its readers.
“Shooting Illustrated combines tactical mindset with practical application to help readers make decisions regarding personal defense that very well could save their lives one day,” said Heggenstaller. “I look forward to working with a talented team of writers, true experts having decades of defensive-firearm experience, to bring responsible citizens useful information and trusted advice on protecting themselves, their families and their homes in an unpredictable world.”
“Really good shooters can make what they do look easy, and so can really good editors. Heggenstaller does both, and so we are able to deliver highly technical material in a format that’s entertaining and easy to digest,” said John Zent, NRA Publications Editorial Director. “What you see with him is a professional at work, every bit as decisive and accurate as the professional operators from whom Shooting Illustrated takes it cues.”
Helping Heggenstaller push for new levels of achievement are Associate Editor Ed Friedman, Assistant Editor Bob Boyd and Editorial Assistant Ann Rezelman. Look for Shooting Illustrated, The Definitive Source for the Modern Shooter, at a newsstand near you, or subscribe by calling (877) 223-3840.
