New Jersey DEP to Hold Media Tour of Partially Reopened Island Beach State Park

On Friday, January 25 at 10 a.m., the Department of Environmental Protection will host a tour of recently reopened Island State Beach Park, including sections of the park most impacted by Superstorm Sandy.

State Parks Director Mark Texel will be joined by DEP Parks’ personnel, Island Beach State Park staff and conservation partners for the tour, which will begin at the park’s administrative office.

Media must RSVP as soon as possible to the DEP Press Office at the numbers provided at the top of this advisory. Space is limited. Anyone who has not provided an RSVP cannot be guaranteed a seat on tour vehicles unless space exists.

The event is expected to be held rain, snow or shine. Check with the Press Office in the event of extremely inclement weather. Participants are urged to dress warmly and wear appropriate footwear as the tour will stop at various outdoor points within the park.

For GPS users, the address for Island Beach State Park is Shore Road, Seaside Park, N.J., 08752

From the Garden State Parkway, take Exit 82 to Route 37 East. Drive approximately 7 miles over Mathis Bridge. Bear right and merge onto Route 35 South toward Seaside Park/Island Beach State Park. After S-curve, follow Route 35 South about 2.5 miles to Island Beach State Park. Once past the park gate entry, travel approximately 3.5 miles to the Administrative Office on left.
