Due to Reed Exhibitions’ refusal to reconsider their decision to ban Modern Sporting Rifles from the February 2-10 Eastern Sports Show in Harrisburg, PA, the National Rifle Association has decided to withdraw from the show. We had called on Reed Exhibitions to reconsider their decision; unfortunately they have steadfastly refused to do so. As a result, the NRA will not be participating in the upcoming show in Harrisburg or in any other shows hosted by Reed Exhibitions that maintain this policy. We are disappointed that Reed Exhibitions has ignored the concerns expressed by attendees, the outdoor industry and the NRA in not reconsidering their position to ban the display of Modern Sporting Rifles.

Good for the NRA! and the NWTF as well.

Who cares? The NRA stopped years ago working for the average hunter and gun enthusiast before it took the current extremist guns-at-all-costs stance. I don’t need the NRA anymore, I’m saddened to say. Don’t let the door hit your behind on the way out of the Harrisburg convention center.

I TOTALLY AGREE! I own three pistols and two long guns and quit the NRA several years ago due to their extremist views. Funny to watch LaPierre invoke SCOTUS justice Hugo Black yesterday in defense of 2nd Amendment rights when Black in fact believed in strict limitations of those rights. My god who put this guy in charge?

      • GrouserGoDucks

I too agree. The NRA has gone off the deep end. I own four bolt action rifles, three shotguns and four revolvers, I shoot at the range almost every week, and I’ve been a hunter all my life. I learned to make my first shot count, and I sure as heck don’t need a thirty-round magazine to hit what I’m aiming at. True sportsman don’t need hand grenades, bazookas or shoulder-fired rockets, and we don’t need to carry machine guns either. The NRA’s obsession with rapid-fire, high capacity arms is incredibly misguided.

      • mammonista

Frankly the tactics employed by the NRA are all too obvious to everyone but the PARANOID. The second amendment, like the first amendment are not absolute, i.e. a majority of ‘we the people’ have decided that ‘free speech’ does not include hate speech, incitement to riot, shouting ‘fire’ in a theater. And a majority of ‘we the people’ have decided civilians do not need hand grenades, bazookas, fully automatic weapons. Now it’s time for the majority to tell the crazies to give up the 30-round magazines and the weapons that utilize them.
I’ve had several people on this forum tell me that they in fact go hunting with an AR or AK. While that may be true I’ve never seen one in the field or seen the need for one in a hunting environment. I’m with you grouser…true sportsmen don’t need them.
If on the other hand you think your ‘sporting rifle’ will keep you safe from the tyranny of an overreaching government please don’t infect others with your paranoia.

      • RugerNiner

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms
is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government………Thomas Jefferson

    • If you believe your a gun owner, name me any other effective Nationwide group that is an advocate for our 2nd Amendment rights? I know of none other. I do not agree with 100% what my wife says, and I certainly do not agree 100% with the NRA, but they are my only advocate and I support the overall concepts they attempt to protect for me and all those who own weapons in the US and believe in the Constitution.

There are over 400 vendors, sponsors and speakers/outdoor celebrities who have also withdrawn from the ESOS. Go to FB/boycott the eastern sports and outdoor show
Show your support for these many vendors!

Solidarity is key! Good for NRA and the other vendors.

  • AZsparrow

Good for the NRA, Smith & Wesson, the NWTF and any others. I hope more follow their lead, as well as people that might have attended. The enemy is at the gate as they say, and those that would think to make a few bucks being more important than coming together to stand up for the intent of the 2nd amendment and our natural rights, do us all harm. Make no mistake, all this anti-rifle/gun push has nothing to do with creating safer schools, the progressives intend to disarm you, one step at a time. We’re no safer from tyranny now, than 200 years ago, times may change on the calendar, but the corruption of people and governments seeking power don’t. Don’t let them make potential criminals out of YOU or me for standing up, write your Congressman… be heard. Join the NRA, GOA, SAF, or any group you prefer to help give a voice, take some kind of action to help. Once your rights are gone, they’re gone folks… and for future generations as well.

i thank the nra for resisting every attempt to limit gun freedom of everykind. the liberal left is determined to take guns, all at once or a chip here and a chip there. every chiip is precious to the whole.

All you people that disagree with the NRA here, should lose your 2nd Amendment rights since you obviously don’t care about them.

National ‘Assault Weapon’ Ban Includes Handguns and Shotguns

    Posted on January 24, 2013

    Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s office confirmed
that she will be introducing in the Senate Thursday a new version of
the so-called assault weapon ban. A spokesman said the full text will be
released at a press conference on Thursday.

    The California
Democrat intends to expand on the ban that expired in 2004, by
including handguns and shotguns, in addition to rifles. She would
decrease from two to one the number of cosmetic features on a gun to
have it be considered an “assault weapon.” This means that if a gun has
just one item like a pistol grip or bayonet lug, then it is illegal.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law the same ban in New York last week.

Furthermore, instead of grandfathering in current firearms, she would
create a national gun registry for the government to track lawful gun
owners. Magazines would again be limited to 10 rounds.

  • We should all boycott any activity that attempts to prejudice law abiding citizens who are only exercising our rights as free people, to assemble and share a common interest. Criminals do not show up to activities that they can be recognized at or videotaped, etc.

  • 2ThinkN_Do2

Whether the NRA, GOA, NAGR or any other organization goes beyond what some of us believe is necessary to own or use, the fact is; they are supporting your fundamental right to own firearms. The 2nd Amendment is not about your right to be a Sportsmen and Hunt. It’s about your right to protect yourself from extremism and autocratic rule.

  • C256

That is one show that I wouldn’t go to. Thank God that I live in the west where the outdoor show had all sorts of weapons in it.

  • All you folks who are bashing the NRA should turn to Obama when you need help!
My outlook is that (I am the NRA) and don’t care who knows it, I’m proud of my membership.
As for those statements about we don’t need bazooks and machine guns, well I don’t have any of them; But the 2nd Amendment has been interpreted that we should have access to the same type weapons as our standing military which could include Abrams Tanks and F16 fighter jets,(oops I forgot Obama gave them to Egypt) I’m feeling safer already.
The bottom line is that you guy’s will probably wish you had been paying membership dues to the NRA instead of voting Democrat before this is over.
