Earlier today, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) held a press conference detailing the introduction of a new bill to ban the importation, sale, and transfer of “assault weapons.” Feinstein was joined by fellow senators Dick Durbin and Chuck Schumer among others, as well as representatives of the armed forces and police onstage.

The bill seeks to, among other provisions:

  • Ban the importation, sale, and transfer of over 150 specifically named firearms (see list below) and semiautomatic rifles, shotguns, and pistols that feature detachable magazines and sport one or more “military characteristics”
    • Accessories or features considered “military characteristics:” pistol grip, forward grip, folding/telescoping/detachable stock, grenade or rocket launcher, barrel shroud, and threaded barrel
  • Ban the importation, sale, and transfer of “high-capacity” magazines (magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds)
  • Specifically ban accessories like Slidefire stocks and firearms featuring “bullet buttons”
  • Exempt firearms that are lawfully possessed at the time of the bill’s implementation, firearms manually operated by a bolt, pump, lever, or slide action, “assault weapons” used by military, law enforcement, and retired law enforcement, and antique firearms; along with 2,258 specifically mentioned “hunting and sporting rifles and shotguns”

The senator began her speech by expressing frustration at the recent shootings in Newtown and elsewhere, for which she claims the bill is a response to.

“The common thread in these shootings is that each gunman used a semi-automatic assault weapon or large capacity ammunition magazine,” Feinstein stated. “These massacres don’t seem to stop,” she continued, as Feinstein and others talked on the dangers of “high-capacity,” “military” grade weapons in the hands of Americans.

“No weapon is [being] taken from anyone,” Feinstein said.

What the bill will do is to ban the sale, production and distribution of roughly 150 firearms, including rifles, shotguns and pistols with “military-style” components as well as “high-capacity” magazines. In a list obtained by the Daily Caller, weapons named under the bill include all AK and AR types and their pistol configurations, in addition to other models.

Unlike the previous assault weapons ban, which Feinstein had a large role in shaping, there is little talk of an expiration date on the current proposed bill.

“The purpose of this bill is to dry up the supply of these weapons over time, therefore there is no sunset on this bill,” elaborated Feinstein.

Gun rights activists oppose these new restrictions, saying that new laws would not stop criminals from obtaining weapons or decrease shootings. Others cite the low number of murders connected to rifles and “assault weapons” specifically. According to a report by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, only a small amount of homicides are committed with rifles compared to other weapons such as knives, handguns, and blunt objects.

Below is the list of firearms banned by name:

Politician…. Democrat…. California….. The lowest form of human life possible

I am an avid hunter and shooter but personally have no use for the so called assult weapons….but….. this will probably be just the beginning. That’s the part that scares me. Even though it’s really not the gun that’s the problem ( you never hear of mass shootings with semi-auto deer and varmint guns ) it’s the dream situations that these feeble minds exist in.

  • Veteran

This is another reason why I left California behind years ago,..frickin’ idiots,..and she’s one of the ring leaders

  • Bud

Has anyone noticed that the liberal/progressive mindset requires that they TAKE SOMETHING from us law-abiding citizens in order to help us while they have full-time armed guards to protect themselves? Only from my cold dead fingers!

The slippery slope just got much steeper and slipperier. They have been after these types of firearms for a long time. Decades in fact. All because of fear and ignorance and the desire to be in complete control of the masses. The school shootings emboldened them and they were able to use this tragedy to further their agenda and to spring into action. All I can say is to mark this day and if these actions do not work, Feinstein and her accomplices must be held accountable for the millions of dollars wasted.

A much better solution would have been to announce that California would be giving grants on heavy duty gun safes and trigger locks so that these guns could be locked up and kept away from those not authorized to have them. And that they would be opening free crisis centers to help those who feel disenfranchised and who are having suicidal or murderous thoughts. Those measures do not trample on anyone’s rights and would likely actually make a difference.

We need to ban Overspending, Showboating Senators, congress woman and others that want to make millions of honest hard working gun owners (that whom pay for our country in tax’s etc.) PAY the price for someone else’s stupid actions. Lets put it to a vote with the people of California Mrs. Feinstein . If the people want it …it will be voted in…otherwise, Go sit and spend more of our tax’s on something else.

Assault weapon not used in their “model mass shooting” Has anyone decided to speak to experts in the fields related to crime…weapons….better deterrants might be more effective than this ban..how about mastering our current laws and throwing this energy into supporting and enforcing them…

Once you reach her low status she also lost her common sense

They missed some, like the M1A and the Mossberg Tactical and Pistol Grip shotguns, like the Cruiser. They really can’t do the job right can they . . . . : (
It makes me happy though, now I only own two guns that are on the list, instead of 4. Might have to run out and buy an AR, just in case enough of the dopes in office throw in the towel to these knuckleheads.

Ban the media from sensationalizing these mentally disturbed killers. Putting them in the spot light just promotes more of the same. If there was a murder with an egg beater the media would splash it around for days. First thing you know, we would ha ve a rash of egg beater killings, then…. There would be a ban on egg beaters which would spread to a ban on all kitchen appliances!!

What about the 450,000 annual deaths of Americans due to coronary thrombosis of which the government is not funding research to stop it? Should we ban all kinds of hamburgers and French fries? There are about 1,000,000 abortions a year in this country, some are performed in the third trimester-late term abortions; they are children of God too; should we ban scalpels? Thirty-six thousand Americans die every year in traffic accidents, mostly caused by repeated drunk driving offenders and teenagers: Should we ban the sale of cars? I’m not even going to mention the tens of hundreds of children killed as “collateral damage” while bombing or strafing Arab cities, or other cities we attack for bogus reasons as those in Vietnam, East Timor (where American made weapons were authorized to kill the population systematically), or those of operation “Just Cause” in Panama City, etc.
