Oregon Anti-snagging Rule Takes Effect on North Umpqua River

A new anti-snagging angling rule takes effect Mar. 1 on the North Umpqua River from Lone Rock Boat Ramp upstream to the beginning of the fly waters above Rock Creek. ODFW fishery managers say the rule is meant to curb snagging of spring chinook headed upriver to spawn.
Terminal fishing gear is restricted to an artificial fly, lure or bait with a single-point hook unless fishing with a buoyant lure with no weight added to the line or lure. Weights may not be attached below or less than 18 inches above the lure or bait.
Anglers can find the new rule on page 11 of the 2013 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations. The new rule is in effect for several waterbodies throughout the state.
