Gold Tip Dominates Phenix City ASA Tourney, Levi Morgan Rings up Second Win

Showing no signs of taking his foot off the pedal, the 2012 ASA Shooter of the Year, Levi Morgan once again found victory at the second event on the ASA schedule, held March 8-10th in Phenix City, Alabama. Gold Tip’s Tommy Gomez took home second place honors after a strong comeback during Sunday’s final shootoff, nudging out fellow Gold Tip Pro Staffer, Jack Wallace, who landed in third place. At the ASA outdoor 3-D event, Pro Division contestants shoot two rounds of twenty targets from unmarked distances that vary in distance up to 50 yards.   The five highest scores from the first two rounds qualify for the shoot-off to decide the winner.

After his first ASA win of the year in Newberry, FL earlier in February, Morgan felt confident going into the Phenix City event.  After Saturday’s first round of 20 targets, Morgan held a 6 point lead going into Sunday’s final round.  Morgan maintained his first place standing through the second round and into the final shootout, where he won with a final score of 437 – 15 points above second place finisher, Tommy Gomez.

“The weather’s just been killing me back home in Pennsylvania and getting time outdoors to practice has been tough,” said Morgan. “But I stuck with my usual game plan on Saturday, went out aggressive, and found my rhythm early in that first round.”

The three top Pros at Phenix City were all shooting Gold Tip X-cutter Ultralight Pro Series arrows and Bee Stinger Stabilizer Systems.  But they weren’t the only ones whose Gold Tips were finding their mark.  In total, Gold Tip shooters captured 14 first place finishes, including the top three senior Pros, of which, Art Brown pulled off the win.  The Crossbow class was taken yet again by Rob Larkins, shooting Gold Tip Laser 4 Pros.  Gold Tip shooters won nearly all major classes including: Pro, Senior Pro, Crossbow, Semi Pro, Known 50, Open B, Known 45, Open C, Young Adult, Youth Pins, Youth boys and the Eagle and Jr. Eagle classes.

“This was quite an impressive weekend for both Gold Tip and Bee Stinger, to say the least, “ said Tim Gillingham, Gold Tip Pro Staff Director. “ When one brand of arrows can dominate category after category and walk away with 14 wins, you know you have something to be proud of.  We do, and we are.”
