South Carolina DNR Announces Closing Dates of Upstate Range

The S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) gives public notice that the James O. Thomason Firing Range in Spartanburg County will be closed for range modifications from March 25, 2013 until July 23, 2013.

The James O. Thomason Firing Range is a supervised range that is owned and operated by DNR in Spartanburg County. The range currently provides five 100-yard stations and ten 200-yard stations. Pistol shooting is currently limited to Wednesdays only. DNR is closing the James O. Thomason Firing Range to make improvements to the facility that will include construction of a nine (9) station pistol range to expand shooting opportunities for local shooters. The new pistol range addition will include handicapped parking and shooting positions. Funding for these range improvements is being provided by Hunter Education funding made available through Federal Wildlife Restoration Funds. For more information about the James O.
