Hoyt shooters lay down the law in Texas. Despite gusting winds and insurmountable pressure, Hoyt shooters were clutch in every division
In the Men’s Compound class, Reo Wilde and his Pro Comp Elite XL proved once again why he is the number one ranked archer in the world. After qualifying in the number one position, Wilde maintained position and won every match to clinch the gold. Fellow Hoyt Pro Comp Elite shooters, Rodger Willett Jr. and Bridger Deaton battled it out for Bronze with Willet getting the upper hand in the last end to secure the medal, leaving Deaton with fourth.
In the Women’s Compound class, Erika Jones and her Pro Comp Elite qualified in the number one position and like Wilde, maintained and won every match to clinch the gold. Jamie Van Natta had a strong showing, after losing to Jones in the semi-final match, Van Natta regained composure and dominated the bronze medal match by shooting the highest score on the field.
The Men’s Recurve class had a familiar ring to it, two archers wielding Hoyt’s new Ion-X. Brady Ellison and Jake Kaminski met in the gold medal match and shot arrow for arrow until the last shot with Ellison taking the victory. Young up and comer, Colin Klimitchek had a strong showing taking bronze in the men’s division. In the Women’s Recurve division Ariel Cibilaro took down some big names in recurve archery and earned the bronze medal.
World Games Team Trials. Like the Olympics, the World Games are held every four years and serve as the premier event for non-Olympic sports. Compound Archery is not in the Olympics, so a World Games qualifier in the USA is going to draw in some serious talent. The top eight qualifiers of each compound category are eligible to compete for the two positions on the team. The open spots on the team are earned by points accumulated during qualification and round-robin match play among the top eight. Among the top eight in the men’s class were Hoyt shooters; Reo Wilde, Rodger Willett, Logan Wilde and Hoyt’s very own Steve Anderson. In the Women’s class Erika Jones, Diane Watson and Carly Cochran were among the top eight.
Reo Wilde went on and won five of his seven matches to earn the number one spot. Anderson went into the round-robin ranked seventh, however, he won every single match, going up against the biggest names in compound archery to earn the second spot on the team. In the women’s class, Jones was dominant and earned the number one spot. The US team will compete against other teams from around the world at the World Games which will be held in July 2013 in Cali, Columbia.
