“Duck Dynasty” to Get New Cast Member, Pastor Alan Robertson

While he may not sport the trademark Robertson beard or don camouflage religiously, Alan Robertson could not be happier in joining his family on their hit show Duck Dynasty. Or should we say, Pastor Alan Robertson.

Alan is the eldest son of Phil Robertson, the family patriarch and founder of the Duck Commander brand. When the rest of the Robertson boys teamed up for starring roles in Duck Dynasty, Alan abstained. According to the New York Post, he had been worried about fame affecting his two daughters and granddaughters. That has not stopped the pastor from accompanying the family on speaking tours, which brought him in contact with the downside of fame. Alan recalls one incident when an overzealous fan accosted him on the way to the restroom, making him feel threatened. Since then he keeps his security team updated on his comings-and-goings, just like the rest of the Robertsons.

After consideration, Alan decided that the risks of fame are not enough to deter him from joining the show. Dressed in a sharp black suit and welcoming smile, he presents a much different image than those of his brother, father and uncle. Alan’s reason for coming onto Duck Dynasty is simple: to spread the word of God.

“What I do for our church–you see, it’s a pretty good-sized church–impacts a lot of people, but because of my association with the show, I’ll get to minister to a lot more people,” he told the New York Post. “Any person that’s an evangelist, that’s what you want to do, so I had to give this up for something possibly bigger.”

Duck Dynasty recently concluded its third season and finished strong with a finale audience of 9.6 million. The show retains its strong position in cable television, coming in as the second most-watched series behind A&E’s The Walking Dead. The Robertson clan is adjusting well to Hollywood. With fans like Faith Hill, it is no wonder why they are the darlings of the entertainment media. Alan, however, feels a little shy coming out of the gate. The rest of the family already has three years of television experience under their belts and the Louisiana pastor hopes that he did not come late to the game.

“I’m just worried about coming in and not being able to perform on the spot,” said his wife Lisa.

Regardless, Alan says he is proud of his family’s values and holds true to the traditions that his father taught him.

“From Day 1, Dad held up his Bible and said, ‘This is part of our lives, is this going to be in?’ ” Alan says. “And they were like, ‘That’s in, that’s part of who you are.’ ”

Look for him to make an appearance in season four.
