Video: Young Elk Males Stage Mock “Tournament”

A beachgoer managed to record video of five young elk bachelors “practicing” for real-life competition on Usal Beach, California. They still have time before the rutting season, but these youngsters are eager to practice their skills against willing opponents. Roosevelt elk, like the ones shown in the video below, are the largest of all elk still living in North America. Once ranging far across California, British Columbia, and Washington, these animals are now found in only a handful of places. The largest herd of Roosevelt elk in America remain in Washington’s Olympic National Park, which was founded in part to preserve these creatures.
