Did he really think he was going to get away with that? The Sun Sentinel reports that a 19-year-old man was arrested after stuffing an AR-15-style rifle—bipod and all—into his pants during a visit to a Fort Lauderdale gun shop. Marlon Paul Alvarez then attempted to limp out of the store unseen, but was quickly confronted by the shop’s owner, Kevin Hughes, and subdued.

While the rifle was recovered, Alvarez himself was able to escape after a short scuffle and was later captured by police.

It is believed that Alvarez planned on selling the rifle, which was valued at $830. Instead, the would-be thief is now looking at grand theft charges and a $25,000 bond. Court records show that Alvarez has a history of theft and drug possession charges, as well as an injunction from New York prohibiting him from possessing firearms.
