The concept of gun safety has changed dramatically over the years, and that’s very evident after watching this 1936 Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department video.

Without a doubt these men were some of the finest marksmen of their day, but shooting a lit cigar out of someone’s mouth is not something a police officer, or most anyone for that matter, would try today.

The video also features an officer writing his initials in a target with a Thompson submachine gun.
