Rediscovered Footage Shows Parachuting Beavers Being Tossed from Planes

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game recently found some pretty interesting footage featuring parachuting beavers.

The film, titled Fur for the Futurewas discovered by Fish and Game historian Sharon Clark in an archive, where it was mislabeled. The footage shows the the Idaho Department of Fish and Game’s efforts to relocate overpopulated beavers.

The relocation involved packing the beavers in boxes and throwing them out of an airplane to their new home. This type of “dramatic” relocation is no longer used—the Idaho Department of Fish and Game now employs more traditional methods of deployment, like trucks and boats.
