Video: Japanese Diver Swims with Giant Squid

Giant squids are some of the most elusive animals on the planet. In fact, a live giant squid was not even caught on film until 2006.

A lucky and brave diver recently captured this incredible footage in Toyama Bay, Japan. The giant squid was seen swimming through shallow waters and a this adventurous man jumped in the water to film it up-close. The creature in the video is only 12 feet long and it’s most likely a juvenile. Adult giant squids are know to grow up to 46 feet in length, which is longer than a school bus.

This is also the first time that a live giant squid have ever been filmed by a human and not a remote-controlled submersible.
