PSA: You Do Not Need a “License” to Hunt Morel Mushrooms

Looks like the Facebook rumor mill is churning again and this time the topic is morels.

The Missouri Department of Conservation posted this photo of an alleged “morel hunting permit” last Friday as a warning to mushroom hunters. Apparently a rumor was going around Facebook claiming that in order to hunt for morels you needed a state license. The MDC clarified that you “DO NOT” need a license to hunt for morels in Missouri. The only case where you might need prior authorization is when you are morel hunting on private property. It’s always a good idea to get permission from the land owner first.

FACEBOOK FALSITY: An image of a “permit” to hunt mushrooms is making the rounds on Facebook. So you know, you DO NOT…

Don’t believe everything you see on the internet and good luck during the 2016 morel season.
