Mother of Uber CEO Travis Kalanick has Died in Tragic Boating Accident, His Father in ‘Serious’ Condition

Uber CEO Travis Kalanick received some bad news on Friday after his parents were in a boating accident near Fresno, California.
His mother passed away and his father is in the hospital reportedly in “serious” condition. Mike Isaac of the New York Times reported the tragic news on Twitter:

The Fresno Bee has details on the incident, but it sounds like it was a freak accident. The two had been boating on Pine Flat Lake when they hit a rock and sank. The accident was reported between 2 and 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Bonnie, Travis’s mother, suffered fatal injuries, but Donald suffered “moderate” injuries and was flown to a hospital in a helicopter.
