Even if you are a strong swimmer, water can still pose a serious danger. That’s why people rely on lifeguards or friends to ensure that everyone stays safe.
Jamel Dunn, 32, of Cocoa, drowned in a Florida retention pond. His body was recovered 2 days later after his fiancee reported him missing. This week, a friend of Dunn’s family came across this disturbing video on social media and forwarded it to the Brevard County Sheriffs Department. In the video, you can clearly see the man struggling to keep his head above water while the teens joke about him drowning from shore.
No attempt was made to help the drowning man. You can hear them say in the video “Get out the water, you gonna die,” while someone else yells, “ain’t nobody fixing to help you, you dumb (expletive).” While Dunn disappeared under the water, you can clearly hear one of the teens yell, “Oh, he just died.”
The teens who posted the video were questioned by detectives, but police have said that they will likely not face charges because they were not involved in his death. This tragedy could have easily been prevented by a good Samaritan.
