Video: 3 Key Factors in the 2017 Whitetail Rut

Halloween is here, which can only mean one thing: the whitetail rut is near!
If you’re a deer hunter, you probably view the calendar a little different than most people. In the minds of hunters, Halloween signals the end of October, which means we can kiss the dreaded “October lull” goodbye, and the beginning of the most exciting time to be in the woods: the rut.
Now, catching a big buck as he spontaneously veers from his nocturnal summer pattern isn’t out of the question earlier in the season, but the month of November brings a change in weather and a boost of hormones you simply won’t want to miss.
If you’re planning on hunting the rut, there are three key things you should understand before venturing out into the woods:
- The Rutting Moon is the key
- The rut will not be a sprint
- The rut WILL have a sweet spot (this year, it’s November 2-12; plan accordingly!)
