Have you ever wondered how alligators survive in the winter? It seems like every day we come across something we didn’t know was a thing . . . but in our defense, when’s the last time you saw an alligator in a frozen pond?

This is the scene at the Shallotte River Swamp Park in North Carolina:

It might look like these gators made a big mistake in judgement, but it’s actually a pretty clever trick they use to breathe, and experts say it’s sort of like hibernation.

All of the alligators in the park have been rescued from captivity and therefore cannot go back to the wild. The gators seem pretty chill about the idea . . .
