Savage Isn’t Going Anywhere, Launches 5 New Rifles at the NRA Annual Meetings 2018

Early this week we reported that Vista Outdoor is exploring a strategic shift in their business and aims to focus on their brands which have the most opportunity for sustainable growth.

Vista CEO Chris Metz explained, “Our review identified product categories that are core to the company’s long-term business strategy. We believe future investment should focus on categories where Vista Outdoor can achieve sustainable growth, maximize operational efficiencies, deliver leadership economics, and drive shareholder value.”

While it was unclear at the time what the future held for Savage, it appears that it is business as usual. At this years NRA Annual Meetings in Dallas, Savage introduced 5 new firearms to strengthen their MSR line as well as two new additions to their rimfire offerings.

Rounding out their MSR line, Savage has introduced two new MSR’s focused on competitive shooters as well as a new long range MSR 15.

MSR 15 Long Range

Savage 2

Savage tuned the barrel length specifically for the 224 Valkyrie cartridge to achieve peak accuracy at extreme range. The barrel is also topped with a two-port muzzle brake mounted with Savage’s proprietary taper-lock interface. The brake allows the shooter to adjust the recoil impulse of the rifle and stabilize the muzzle for faster, more accurate follow-up shots. The custom-length gas system, paired with a low-profile adjustable gas block, is enclosed by a true free-float handguard. The gas block can be adjusted for optimum cycling of the full range of bullet weights and tuned for use with a suppressor.

MSR 15 Competition

Savage 3

Savage teamed with PROOF Research® to craft a barrel specific to the firearm. Its unique ported muzzle brake allows the shooter to tune the recoil impulse to stabilize the muzzle for faster, more accurate follow-up shots. The custom-length gas block can be adjusted for optimal cycling of the full range of bullet weights, as well as for use with a suppressor. The gas block has also been upgraded with an integral picatinny rail and a custom handguard.

MSR 10 Competition HD

Savage 4

To finish at the top of any event, shooters need the customization and precision engineered into every facet of the new MSR 10 Competition HD. Its advanced barrel is built specifically for the rifle in a collaborative effort between Savage and PROOF Research®. The unique ported muzzle brake allows the shooter to tune the recoil impulse to stabilize the muzzle for faster, more accurate follow-up shots. Further customization follows with the gas block, which can be adjusted for optimal cycling of the full range of bullet weights, as well as for use with a suppressor. The gas block is also wrapped in a custom handguard and topped with an integral picatinny rail.

Rascal Target

Savage 5

The Rascal Target is built for accuracy and adaptability, thanks to a precision hardwood stock, heavy 16 1/8-inch barrel, one-piece picatinny rail and threaded (1/2-28) muzzle. Like the original Rascal, the single-shot rifle cocks by lifting the bolt and unloads easily—without pulling the trigger. The design also builds superior shooting skills thanks to full-size rifle features, including Savage’s user-adjustable AccuTrigger™ system. The platform offers far better safety, functionality and accuracy than competing designs.

Rascal FV-SR

Savage 6

The Rascal FV-SR delivers pint-size precision thanks to a heavy barrel with a threaded (1/2-28) muzzle. Like the original Rascal, the singleshot rifle cocks by lifting the bolt and unloads easily—without pulling the trigger. The design also builds superior shooting skills thanks to full-size rifle features, including a tough synthetic stock and Savage’s user-adjustable AccuTrigger™ system.
