Video: Here’s The ’10-Foot, 700-Pound Shark’ Caught Off Navarre Beach Fishing Pier

A group of anglers reeled in a gigantic great white shark at the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier on Tuesday, and since then, the internet has been buzzing about the rare catch.

“It is rare, it is absolutely rare,” said Thomas Thielman, a pier employee and True Blue shark fishing team member. “We don’t get that many here. We see sightings of them, but we never caught one. That’s the first one our team has caught. We put a tag on it, got all the measurements, and got a safe, clean release.”

Great white sharks in these particular waters aren’t all that uncommon, it’s just a rare occasion somebody actually hooks into one!

According to ABC 11, the team of fishermen battled with the nearly 700-pound shark for over an hour, and the whole thing was documented in several videos going around the internet lately.

According to Pensacola News Journal, the shark ended up weighing 650-pounds and measuring 10-feet in length. Undoubtedly, naysayers showed up in the comments section to call the 10-foot-long, 700-pound size estimation into question.

“Well when we got the bite, we did our normal thing and let him eat, then we hooked him up and it was probably about an hour and 30 minute fight,” Thielman recalled. “When we got the leader close, I personally grabbed the leader, and once we realized what it was, that’s when everybody’s eyes just blew up.”

Once the team secured a tag on the shark, it was safely released.

More information on the shark has since been sent to the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, which closely monitors marine life.
