Video: Detroit Man Shoots 6-Foot Alligator After It Lunged At Him

A Detroit man fatally shot a 6-foot alligator after it approached him and lunged at him while he was out behind his vacation home, near Shay Lake in Tuscola County.
From the sound of Derrick Fells’ story, it all happened pretty fast after he got down to a pond behind his home. According to Fox News, he said “I get there and the alligator raises up, turns toward me and charges.”
Luckily, Fells was carrying a pistol at the time, but had to shoot it with his off/weak hand because his right hand is in a cast.
Once Michigan State Police and the county sheriff arrived, they discovered the gator belonged to a neighbor who runs a reptile rescue and it evidently escaped.
