Federal’s Upland Steel Shotshells Using Paper Wads In 2022
Nicolas Lenze 01.06.22
Bird hunters understand the big-time benefits they get from using steel shotshells. Being denser than lead, steel allows the same size pattern to have more pellets than traditional lead. Using steel shot also keeps lead pollution levels lower, keeping our hunting spots clean. Federal Premium is releasing their popular Upland Steel shotshells, but using paper wads to reduce the amount of plastic on the ground, new for 2022.

Put more birds on the ground—and less plastic. Federal® Upland Steel uses the new Paper Wad, cellulose-based filler and a paper gas-sealing over-powder wad to produce effective patterns while significantly reducing the amount of plastic left in the field. Its high velocity makes the most of the 1-ounce steel payload.
Upland Steel Shotshells Now Using A Paper Wad
These 12-gauge 2 3/4″ shells carry a one-ounce steel payload. The 7.5 shot is sitting in Federal’s cellulose-based filler, which helps keep the shot pattern consistent by preventing the shot from deforming. These high-velocity shells send the charge toward your next meal at 1,330 feet per second. The clean-burning propellant is capped with an over-powder paper wad to ensure effective and predictable patterns. The paper wads are also meant to reduce the amount of plastic left by shooters after a day of blasting. Each box contains 25 Upland Steel shotshells.
