Crappie USA Tournament Results for Florida’s Crescent Lake


This past Saturday Crappie USA held a qualifying event at Florida’s Crescent Lake at Crescent City, Florida. These anglers from 12 different states were competing for not only cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. This year’s classic will be held October 24th-27th, 2012 on the Barkley/Kentucky Lakes at Cadiz,  Kentucky.

Semi-Pro Division Results

Taking first place was one of Florida’s top teams George Parker of West Palm Beach, Florida and Daryl Cole of Leesburg, Florida with a total weight of 14.53 pounds and earning $1,200.00. George and Daryl were long line trolling in 10-14 feet of water using Charlie Brewer Slider Jigs and  chartreuses/blue AWD baits. “The fish seem to come up shallower during the day when a cloud cover moved in”, said the team. The team caught 150 fish during the event fishing north of Crescent City.

Second place went to the Cochran, Georgia team of Scott and Billy Williams with a weight of 12.2 pounds and earning them $700.00. Scott and Billy were long line trolling the upper end of the lake in 12-14 feet of water using Wildcat colored Big Bite Baits to catch 50-75 fish for the day and win the Semi-Pro Ranger Cup Award for an additional $250.00.

In a tie for third place was Tim Eberly of Margate, Florida and Teresa Cole of Leesburg, Florida and the Middleburg, Florida team of Chris and Dale Cercy each with a weight of 11.23 pound and earning the team $600.00. Tim and Teresa were fishing the north end of the lake in 12 feet of water long line trolling blue/chartreuse AWD baits and catching around 150 fish for the day. Chris and Dale were fishing the Dead Lake area in 7 feet of water drifting with the wind to catch 30-40 fish on chartreuse baits.

Fifth place went to Tommy Cherry of Dublin, Georgia and Rick Howard of Warner Robbins, Georgia weighing in 10.85 pounds. Tommy and Rick were long line trolling the upper end of the lake using blue/chartreuse AWD baits and Charlie Brewer Sliders to catch over 100 fish for the day.

Amateur Division Results

In first place in the amateur division was the team of Jason and Brody Little of Cochran, Georgia with a weight of 12.54 pounds and earning the team $900.00. Jason and Brody were fishing the north end around an island in 12-14 feet of water long line trolling wildcat colored jigs to catch 65-70 fish for the day.

Second place went to Sam Adams of Tavares, Florida and Russell Cheatham of Eustis, Florida with a weight of 10.96 pounds and earning $500.00. Sam and Russell were fishing the north end of the lake in 10-12 feet of water long line trolling blue and chartreuse jigs to catch over 75 fish for the day.

Taking third place was the Camilla, Georgia team of Beth and Danny Williamson with a weight of 10.39 pounds and earning the team $300.00. Beth and Danny like many others were long line trolling the north end of the lake using blue Bab Flys in 12-14 feet of water to catch 50-75 fish for the day.

In fourth was the team of James Aubrey Whitt of Trinity, North Carolina and Gary Bishop of Archdale, North Carolina with a weight of 9.76 pounds and earning them $250.00. James and Gary also were fishing the north end of the lake using bubblegum colored Bab Flys tipped with minnows to catch 15 fish for the day.

Fifth place went to the team of Toby Lloyd of Middleburg, Florida and Nathan Schlotz of Tampa, Florida weighing in 9.63 pounds and earning them $200.00. Toby and Nathan were fishing Dunns Creek in 10 feet of water using blue/chartreuse Southern Pro jigs to catch 30-40 fish for the day.

 Big Fish Award

Taking big fish of the event was the team of  Kuratan Noles and Jim Turner both of Crescent City, Florida  with a 2.63 caught on live  bait and earning $330.00. Second place in the big fish contest was the team of Jesse Bowman and Joyce Roddy of Ozark,  Alabama and earning $140.00.

Crappie USA Free Kids Fishing Rodeo

In conjunction with the tournament Crappie USA held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$2,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic.

Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $310,000.00 to the “Crappie Kids” Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Crappie USA “Kids Fishing Rodeos”.

Stats for the Tournament:

Weather-The day started out at 60 degrees and warming to 78 degrees later.

Water-Water was stable with good color. These fish were ready to spawn with some already moving to the banks.
