Laconia New Hampshire Man Killed in Belmont Snowmobile Crash

   01.23.12

A 25-year-old Laconia man, Robert Horn, died when his snowmobile crashed in Belmont around 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2012. Horn had been riding the snow machine at a friend’s house, testing it out after making some repairs, when he suddenly angled across a field and a road and crashed into some trees. Witnesses said it looked to them like the machine’s throttle may have become stuck. Horn was not wearing a helmet and appeared to have been killed instantly.

Horn’s friends called 911 for emergency assistance. Belmont Fire and Police personnel responded, along with New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers Ronald Arsenault and Brad Morse.

The incident remains under investigation by the N.H. Fish and Game Department. Officials will be inspecting the snowmobile to determine if mechanical problems caused the crash.

“We are saddened by this tragic loss of a young life,” said Arsenault. He stressed the importance of wearing proper safety gear, including helmets, when riding snowmobiles.

No further information is available at this time.
