Oregon DFW Looking for Nominees to Fill PFMC Seat

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is accepting nominations for a seat on the Pacific Fishery Management Council.
The seat is currently held by Dorothy Lowman and is Oregon’s obligatory seat on the council. She is eligible for re-appointment to a second term.

The Pacific Fishery Management Council is one of eight regional fishery management councils established by the Magnuson Fishery Conservation and Management Act to manage fisheries from 3 to 200 miles offshore of the United States coastline. The Pacific Council is responsible for fisheries off the coasts of California, Oregon and Washington.
The ideal candidate for the spot on the council would be knowledgeable regarding the conservation and management of fishery resources off the West Coast. Specific knowledge and experience on management issues and fisheries is also important as well as a strong conservation ethic. They must also work collectively with other council members to make difficult decisions to end overfishing and fulfill the other standards set forth by the Magnuson Act. They must also be willing and able to make a substantial time commitment to fully participate in council business and related activities for the duration of a three-year term.
ODFW will forward the nominations to the Governor’s office for selection of at least three candidates for National Marine Fisheries Service and U.S. Department of Commerce consideration. Appointment to the seat will be conditional until an extensive FBI background investigation has been favorably completed.
