Vermont Hunter Education Instructor Training Offered

There is no more powerful way to give back to what you love than with a gift of your time.  If you love to hunt in Vermont, there are few better ways of giving your time than becoming a volunteer hunter education instructor.

In an effort to attract additional volunteer instructors, Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department Hunter Education staff have scheduled a new Hunter Education Instructor Training for Saturday, March 31, 2012, 8:30am – 4:30pm at the Barre Fish and Game Club in Barre.

As a volunteer instructor, you will conduct the Vermont Hunter Education Program courses as a representative of the Fish and Wildlife Department. The department provides new instructors with all the training and materials needed to successfully conduct a hunter education course.

“Becoming a Hunter Education Instructor takes commitment,” said Hunter Education Coordinator Chris Saunders. “However, our 580 active instructors love volunteering because they know they are directly contributing to the future of hunting and trapping. Through their efforts, hunting is safe and getting safer.”

“Despite record numbers of courses the last few years,” he added, “we still have a particular need for instructors in Addison and Franklin counties.”

All instructor applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully pass a background check
  • Enjoy working with young people
  • Believe in and practice safe, responsible hunting.

The application process includes providing personal references and a criminal history background check.  You can still take the instructor course if the background check has not been completed, but you will not be certified until passing it.

In excess of 5,000 future hunters are educated by the volunteer Certified Instructors yearly.  Classes can be arranged to fit the instructor’s schedule and all materials required are supplied free of charge by the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department.  Why not share your passion and join our team.

Pre-registration is required. For further information, please contact John Pellegrini at (802) 241-3707 or john.pellegrini@state.vt.us
