Why Take a Friend Snowmobiling? More Friends to Snowmobile With!
Fresh Air Educators 02.16.12
On February 11th, the 2012 edition of ‘Take a Friend Snowmobiling Week’ begins. This extended week-long event is the brainchild of GoSnowmobiling.org. After doing some research, GoSnowmobiling.org figured out that non-snowmobilers know next to nothing about the sport—they don’t know how to get started, where they’re allowed to ride and, maybe most importantly, they don’t know about snowmobiling safety and etiquette. The funny thing is, they do seem to know about the beautiful scenery and the fun riding they’re missing. As GoSnowmobiling.org realized, these non-riders want to give snowmobiling a try!
Enter ‘Take a Friend Snowmobiling Week’…
This year’s event is a full 9 days long, spanning 2 weekends. It encourages everyone in the snowmobiling community to extend an invitation to a friend, family member, coworker (anyone!) to come out for a fun first ride. In the past decade, the number of snowmobilers has remained steady in the US at around 1.5 million riders… let’s get that number up! Let’s get these closet snowmobile lovers outdoors and on a snowmobile. Let’s show them that there’s more to winter than bowling, knitting and waiting for the snow to melt.
Snowmobiling needs advocates
Aside from Mother Nature’s annual gift of snow, what keeps snowmobiling alive are the clubs, associations, municipalities, supporting businesses and landowners who work together to make snowmobiling possible and keep riders safe. They are responsible for such things as creating and maintaining the expansive trail systems.
To keep our favorite winter activity going strong, we need to stay on good footing with these important stakeholders and to introduce new riders to the sport. Respecting snowmobiling etiquette and safety are key to keeping that good footing, so who better to introduce snowmobiling to a newbie than a good friend who understands the sport’s culture, who is passionate about safety, and who wants to share their enthusiasm for the sport?
Make sure your friend’s first experience is a safe one
Do you plan on taking a friend on their first ride this season? Make sure you review safe operation before heading out. A great idea is to suggest your friend take an online snowmobile safety course like SNOWMOBILEcourse.com. And from now until the end of February, we are giving away one free course per week. To win, visit our Facebook page <http://www.facebook.com/SnowmobileCourse> and post a story about your ‘First Snowmobile Ride’. At the end of each week, we will pick our favorite story.
We’re also offering a $5 discount for everyone to use on the course. Just enter the code ‘SNOWTAKE’ when you pay at SNOWMOBILEcourse.com.
Have a great and safe time with your friends during ‘Take a Friend Snowmobiling Week’. Hopefully their experience will lead to future trips together in the middle of winter.
