Max Michel, Jr., started the 2012 competitive shooting season with a new look and a runner-up finish at the Florida Open this weekend in Frostproof, Fla. This was the world champion shooter’s first match since Woolrich Elite came on as a sponsor.
“It’s great to get off to a strong start to the season,” Michel said. “But it’s also nice to start off my relationship with Woolrich Elite with a second-place finish.”
The Florida Open is the first major match of the United States Practical Shooting Association season and attracts the world’s top shooters to Florida. More than 400 competitors battled for the title over the three-day match.
With a final score of 1456.5843 match points, Michel finished just 15.74 points out of the top spot. In addition, Michel won 3 of the 10 stages outright.
Using classic International Practical Shooting Confederation targets on 30-round courses of fire, the Florida Open is similar to many of the international matches Michel competes in throughout the year. The world’s best shooters converge in Florida for this early-season event.
“This off-season, I’ve focused more on training and preparation than ever before,” Michel said. “Part of this winter work involved evaluating my gear. From my gun to my holster to my optic to my clothing, if it wasn’t the absolute best available, I wouldn’t use it. That’s why I’m proud to have partnered with Woolrich Elite.”
Michel heads up a rock-solid shooting team including long-range rifle, 3-Gun and International Defensive Pistol Association experts. In addition to representing the brand, these shooters put Woolrich Elite gear through punishing tests of fit, comfort and durability.
