Berkley Havoc Cast for Cash Huge Success for Louisiana Man

   02.28.12

Jerry Brandon didn’t expect to personally meet Hank Parker for a backstage casting lesson, and certainly never expected to have the opportunity to cast for a $100,000. The Haughton, La., AT&T worker was randomly selected from a packed CenturyLink Center crowd to test his casting skills in the Berkley Havoc Cast for Cash contest at the final weigh in.

Although Brandon’s attempt at the $100,000 fell just short, he was given a second shot at the target for $25,000. This attempt just missed the mark once again, but Brandon didn’t go home without. For his effort Berkley awarded him $5,000.

“The Berkley Havoc Cast for Cash was a tremendous success,” said Andrew Marks, Berkley Marketing Director. “Jerry was a great contestant and was really close on both attempts. I think I was sweating a bit more than he was. He had a great practice session with Hank Parker backstage and was really confident using the gear. Berkley Havoc is proud to sponsor the event and look forward to next year in Tulsa, Oklahoma.”

Brandon chose an Abu Garcia Revo S baitcast reel/Abu Garcia Veritas rod spooled with 12lb. Trilene XL for his $100,000 cast. Hank Parker, legendary Bass angler, was on hand to provide one-on-one assistance and casting tips, ensuring Brandon had the best chance to win the cash prize.

“To be honest, I didn’t realize what I was chosen for,” said Brandon. “I haven’t fished in a while, but I hit the water anytime I can. It was pretty exciting coming out onto the Classic floor. It made the casting a little bit more difficult because of the huge crowd.”
