Nebraska Commissioners Will Consider Big Game Recommendations Mar. 9

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commissioners will consider staff recommendations for 2012 big game regulations when they meet March 9. The meeting begins at 9 a.m. at Game and Parks’ Lincoln headquarters, 2200 N. 33rd St.
There will be a public hearing at 9:45 a.m. for big game recommendations, which will include a new 126-day River Antlerless deer season that targets 1,800 miles of river corridor.
There also will be public hearings 9:30 a.m. to consider recommendations regarding legal hunting equipment and checking of big game, and at 10 a.m. to consider Lake Wanahoo boating regulations.
- Commissioners also will consider recommendations to:
- adopt criteria and change duck hunting zones to a four-zone format.
- rename the shooting sports complex at Platte River State Park the Roger G. Sykes Outdoor Heritage Education Complex.
- acquire an 880-acre tract of land in Dawes County to be managed for wildlife, hunting and other recreation.
- expand the Focus on Pheasants Plan.
A staff report on the February translocation of bighorn sheep to the Pine Ridge will be given, as well as an update on the Aquatic Habitat and Angler Access programs.
There also will be an appearance by Michelle Koch of Game and Parks regarding the Nebraska Biological Evaluation Process for the Federal Aid Transportation Program
