Sierra Designs DriDown Insulation Wins Outside Magazine Gear of the Show Award

Vastly improving the way we keep warm in the outdoors, Sierra Designs introduced the game-changing DriDown insulation technology at the 2012 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market trade show and the gear pros at Outside Magazine took notice.

One of only five Gear of the Show award winners selected by Outside, DriDown™ stood out because of its ability to stay dry longer, loft better, and dry faster than regular down. While there were other down technologies released at the show, Outside reported “it’s Sierra Designs’ DriDown technology, which will debut in the form of sleeping bags in June/July and in apparel [later this summer], that intrigues us most.”

“Outside Magazine is one of the most authoritative voices for the outdoor world so we’re thrilled about the award,” said Sue Timbo, Sierra Designs marketing director. “DriDown is a revolutionary new technology and we see it changing the way we experience the outdoors so we want the world to know about it. This award will certainly help us get the word out.”

DriDown™ is regular down treated with a molecular level polymer applied using Sierra Designs’ proprietary method, creating a hydrophobic finish on individual down plumes. As a result, DriDown stays dry 7 times longer in the presence of rain, perspiration, or spills, maintains 98% loft after a night in a high humidity environment, and dries 33% faster when it does get wet for a dryer, warmer, more comfortable night’s sleep.

Sierra Designs is launching DriDown in a line of sleeping bags and jackets for 2012. Sleeping bags, which include the 600 fill-power Zissou 0 HI (3 lb, 1 oz; $299), Zissou 15 (2 lb, 11 oz; $259), Zissou 30 LITE (2 lb, 1 oz; $199), Eleanor 20 HI women’s (3 lb, 0 oz; $299) and Eleanor 30 LITE women’s (2 lb, 9 oz; $259) will be available starting June 1 at REI and REI.com.

The DriDown-insulated men’s and women’s Tov ($259) and Gnar Lite ($229) jackets will offer 600 and 800 fill-power respectively, and are scheduled to hit retail shelves at REI and REI.com starting August 15.
