Tony Cairoli Warms Up With Track Time at the Italian Championships

Red Bull KTM’s Tony Cairoli was in good form in Round Two of the Italian National championship on Sunday in Pietramurata to finish overall third in the MX1 and also in the Elite class.

Riding in front of a large and very enthusiastic crowd, Tony had an eventful first moto where he grabbed the holeshot but then went into a slide and had a small crash. He struggled with a jammed brake lever for some rounds and then just when he got control of this problem, a stone got stuck between the brake disk. “I wasn’t sure what had happened and it was making a strange noise so I didn’t dare to go at full speed, “ he said. He also took the holeshot in second race of the day but went a little wide in the first corner and ran off the track. “I was in about sixth place when I got back and managed to win back three places to finish in third, he said, adding that the track was quite easy but fun. With less than two seconds between the top four riders in both races it was also an exciting day out for the fans.

Riders had dry weather for the first race but light rain fell during the second making the surface slippery. “There was a great crowd and a great atmosphere and that’s always a good motivation to do well,” Tony said. As he continues his preparation for the opening of the GP season, he will now race in third round of the Italian Championships next weekend in Castiglione Del Lago.
