Apply Now for 2012 Brownells/NRA Outstanding Achievement Youth Award

The National Rifle Association is now accepting applications for the Brownell’s/NRA Outstanding Achievement Youth Award. Chosen for their accomplishments in the community, the classroom and the shooting sports, three exceptional young people from across the United States will receive a total of $10,000 courtesy of Brownell’s.
“The Outstanding Achievement Youth Award recognizes young people who exemplify excellence in not only the shooting sports, but other areas of their lives,” said Larry Quandahl, Manager of NRA’s Youth Programs Department. “Dedication to academics and community are important facets to becoming a well-rounded shooter.”
Shooting sport enthusiasts under the age of 21 who meet the core requirements are eligible for the award. Those requirements include completion of a NRA Basic Firearm Training Course, earning a rating through the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program, submitting three letters of recommendation, providing a copy of their school transcript and writing a 1,000 word essay entitled, “What the Shooting Sports have Taught Me.”
Applicants are also required to participate in at least five NRA-sponsored programs. Options include, but are not limited to, presenting the Eddie Eagle GunSafe(r) Program, attending the Youth Education Summit, competing in the Youth Hunter Education Challenge, participating in the National Matches at Camp Perry or attending an NRA Day event.
Applications for the 2012 Brownell’s/NRA Outstanding Achievement Youth Award must arrive at NRA Headquarters no later than May 1, 2012.
