ACUI Announces 2012 Clay Target Championship Registration Numbers

   03.26.12

Registration numbers for the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) championship event soar again.

Currently, 57 colleges, universities, or institutions are registered for the 2012 event to be held in at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio. There are 520 individual athletes registered, and those athletes are registered for 2,425 events. That is a 15 percent increase in athletes and a 24 percent increase in the number of events over the 2011 event.

“We feel that tweaks made by our steering committee to the qualification requirement for the Divisional National Championships and the endowment money given by the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation helped with the increase in the number of events,” said Russ Arnold from Shooting Sports Consulting. “This year to have your scores count for the National Team Championship award, a shooter is required to shoot all six disciplines and scores are tallied on total targets broken rather than a point system. Awards will be presented to the top five teams in each division along with the endowment money given to these winning teams, which helps drive registration.”

The six disciplines covered in the ACUI competition are American Skeet, American Trap, International Wobble Trap, International Skeet, Five Stand, and Sporting Clays

ACUI has organized the Collegiate Clay Target Championships for 44 years. For the last 25 years, the event has been held at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio. To learn more about ACUI, call 442.ACUI.CT (442.222.8428) or visit their website at http://www.ACUI.org/claytargets.
