Borat’s Fake Kazakhstani National Anthem Played During Shooting Competition Medal Ceremony

Kazakhstan wasn’t pleased when Sacha Baron Cohen parodied their national anthem for his film “Borat.” Officials at a Kuwait shooting sport event didn’t help things when they played the parody as Maria Dmitrienko, of Kazakhstan, ascended the pedestal to claim her medal at the 10th Arab Shooting Championship.

Lyrics from the parody include references to the country’s prostitutes and an invitation to grasp the genitals of Kazakhstan’s leader.

“She got up on the pedestal and they played a completely different anthem, offensive to Kazakhstan,” her coach told a Kazakh news channel. He went on to say that event organizer had apparently downloaded the Borat parody by mistake.

The organizers also botched the Serbian national anthem.

Kuwait has since released an official apology to Dmitrienko and Kazakhstan. The Kazakh foreign ministry has also promised to investigate the incident.
